Motion Search allows you to identify a key area of video and then search for any interaction within that area. It can be used when something goes missing, someone uses a backdoor, or even to audit employee break times.

Motion Search lets you jump to a time in your video when motion occurs in an area you have specified. You can specify a motion area using the Motion Search tool, which allows you to draw over a specific part of the video and track motion in that area.

Watch this video to learn how Motion Search works:

How to Use Motion Search

You can track motion to highlight specific points of your video footage by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Video page in the Solink platform.

  2. Select a location.

  3. Select the camera you would like to conduct a motion search on to open the video player.

  4. In the top-right corner of the video player, select the Motion Search button:

  5. Click and hold your mouse button in the video area to draw and highlight an area of interest.

  6. Once you've highlighted an area of interest, you can do the following:

    1. Review the blue bars along the timeline, which represent instances of motion with varying degrees of intensity (low motion, medium motion, high motion).

    2. Select the Previous Motion/Next Motion buttons to navigate between motion.

AI Search: People and Vehicle Detection

If enabled on your cameras, you can use AI detection to enhance your search and specifically find either people or vehicles within your video.

Things to Know

Before getting started with AI search, take note of the following:

  • Only Admin users can turn on AI detection for cameras. For more information on the differences between Admin and Standard users, see this article.

  • AI detection is limited to five cameras per location.

  • A camera can only detect people OR vehicles, not both.

  • AI detection is not retroactive; you cannot search for people or vehicles in video that is recorded after selecting the AI detection type.

Enable AI Detection for your Cameras

To enable AI detection on your cameras, first navigate to the Video page and select a location where you would like to turn on AI detection.

Next, follow these steps:

  1. Hover over a camera and select the Settings icon (gear icon):

  2. Select the type of AI detection you want for the camera. You can detect motion exclusively from people or vehicles, or you can keep the default Motion Search option enabled to detect all motion. You can also disable motion:

    null

Now that you have selected an AI motion detection type, proceed to the next section below.

Search Video for People or Vehicle Motion

With AI detection turned on for your cameras you can now begin to search for people or vehicles in newly recorded video.

To search your video for motion:

Select a camera with AI motion detection to open the video player. You can determine which cameras have motion detection and the type of motion detection enabled via the tags in the thumbnail:

  1. Select a camera with AI motion detection to open the video player. You can determine which cameras have motion detection and the type of motion detection enabled via the tags in the thumbnail:

  2. Select the Motion Search tool.

  3. Select the motion type from to Motion Search toolbar:

  4. Click and hold your mouse button in the video area to draw and highlight an area of interest.

  5. Use the forward and back playback controls to jump between moments of video where people or vehicles were detected.

Note: The Motion Search tool is disabled in Live mode. Turn off Live mode if it is currently on (click on the Live button in the video player to toggle live video feed on/off).

How Are Motion Events Different from Motion Search?

  • Motion events are created when a region of interest (ROI) is defined on a camera and motion is detected within that region. For more information on motion events, see Motion Events.

  • Motion search does not require a ROI to be set on a camera. You can conduct a motion search to check for instances of motion in a specific area of a camera.
