Motion AI Insights

Written by Ryley White

Motion AI Insights is a camera setting that controls how the camera detects motion: all motion, only people, only vehicles, or no motion.

The following features are affected by Motion AI Insights:

Before you change this setting, read How This Setting Affects Other Features.

Note: You do not need AI to use Motion Search. All cameras use the default Motion Search option, which detects all motion. People and vehicle detection are optional.

Note: Motion AI Insights is not the same as Vision Analytics. This setting does not turn on Vision Analytics, and it does not change Line Cross, Zone Tracking, or Path Analysis.

Detection Types

Option

What the camera detects

Motion Disabled

No motion. Motion detection is off for this camera.

Motion Search (default)

All motion, from any source.

People Search

Motion from people only.

Vehicle Search

Motion from vehicles only.

Some cameras also show Vehicle Dwell Time. This option shows only when the camera already uses it. You can change a Vehicle Dwell Time camera to a different option, but you cannot select Vehicle Dwell Time from this menu.

Things to Know

Before you change the detection type, read these points:

  • Only Admin users can change the detection type. For more information on the differences between Admin and Standard users, see this article.

  • Each Solink recording device supports a limited number of cameras with people or vehicle detection. If you select People Search or Vehicle Search when the limit is reached, an error shows and the camera keeps its current setting.

  • A camera can detect people or vehicles, but not both.

  • People and vehicle detection is not retroactive. You can only search for people or vehicles in video that the camera records after you select the detection type.

Change the Detection Type

  1. Navigate to the Video page.

  2. Select a location.

  3. Hover over a camera and select the Settings icon (gear icon).

  4. Select the detection type:

The camera thumbnail shows a tag for the detection type. Use these tags to see which cameras detect people or vehicles or just motion in general:
