Service Display Monitor: FAQs

Written by Ryley White

See the following FAQs for the Service Display Monitor (SDM) to get answers and troubleshoot common issues.

Will I be asked to re-login?

The SDM requires authentication every time it reboots and every 90 days thereafter.

The re-authentication process requires you to scan a new QR code and enter your login credentials (see this guide here).

Why did the SDM log me out before 90 days?

The SDM requires authentication every time it reboots (power outage, for example).

The re-authentication process requires you to scan a new QR code and enter your login credentials (see this guide here).

How can I improve the accuracy of my data?

It is important to ensure your cameras are properly placed and zones are properly setup to capture the best data possible. See the SDM Camera Placement guide for more information.

Additionally, simple camera maintenance and cleaning can help - see our camera cleaning guide for more information.

What happens if my location loses internet connection and/or power?

Data stops flowing to the SDM until internet connection is re-established. Once back online, the SDM may require you to re-authenticate.

Note: Solink’s AI continues to run on the Solink recording device when internet connection is lost; however, without internet, Solink cannot send timing data to the Service Display Monitor.

Loss of power also prevents timing data from flowing to the SDM. The Solink Recording Device also stops processing video until power is restored. Consequently, gaps in historical data (e.g., speed of service last hour) may appear on the SDM.

What happens if one of my cameras goes down?

Data will stop flowing to the SDM from the offline camera(s) and the Solink Recording Device will stop processing video until the camera is back online. Consequently, gaps in historical data (e.g., speed of service last hour) may appear on the SDM.

Note: Please report camera outages to our Support team so that we can address the issue.

How many widgets can I put on one layout?

There is a limit of 5 widgets for each layout.

What's the difference between "Real time" and "Sum of last hour"?

  • Real time displays what is happening right now — the current car at the window, the current depth of the stack, etc.

  • Sum of last hour displays the total number in the past 60 minutes, such as total cars served or drive-offs.

What does the Drive-off widget actually measure?

A drive-off is a car that enters your queue zone but leaves before completing the transaction. The widget counts the number of drive-offs in the time window you choose. See Drive-Off Detection for more information.

Can two widgets share the same AI tag?

Yes — and the other way around too. You can also apply the same AI tag to multiple zones (for example, MENU on both lanes of a dual-lane drive-thru). The widget will report across every zone that carries the tag, which is how dual-lane stores show one combined menu board time.

Why does my widget say "Link widget to camera using AI tag(s)"?

The widget is set up, but no camera zone shares its AI tag yet. Open the camera that watches that area, add a zone with the matching tag under Zone Tracking, and save. The widget will populate within a few seconds.

How do I rename, duplicate, or delete a layout?

Open the Layout dropdown in the top-left of the SDM and click the three-dot menu next to a layout name. From there you can rename it or delete it. To duplicate, the simplest way is to create a new layout and rebuild from the original — that way you can name it clearly (for example, Multi Lane Layout — Training Copy) without affecting the live floor view.

My store's pace is steady all day. Do I have to use Day Parts?

No. A widget works fine with only its default threshold. Day Parts and Day Part-Specific Thresholds are available for stores whose targets change throughout the day (tighter window times during rush, looser overnight). If your day is flat, set a single threshold and move on.

The same metric is always red. What am I doing wrong?

Probably nothing — your threshold is just set lower than your store's real performance. Compare the live values on the dashboard to the threshold in Edit Widget and raise the threshold to a realistic target. If the metric only spikes during one window, set a Day Part-Specific Threshold for that window instead of changing the default.

Can other managers at my store use the same layouts I created?

Yes. Layouts are saved at the location level, so anyone with access to that location sees the same set of layouts in the Layout dropdown. That's why naming layouts clearly (Multi Lane Layout, Single Lane (Main), New Layout for Training) matters.

Why can't I see the Edit button?

Editing layouts requires a user role with the right permission. The following permissions must be enabled for your user in order to both access and edit the SDM. Reach out to someone with Solink admin access on your account or talk to our Support team if you require assistance.

Can I get a notification when a metric exceeds its threshold?

The SDM thresholds will not trigger notifications (SMS, Email, Push). For email or app notifications tied to widget drive-thru data, ask your Solink Customer Success representative about Threshold Notifications, which are configured separately from the SDM.
