# Zone Tracking Events

With Solink's Zone Tracking feature, automatically create an event whenever an individual in the camera view/vehicle remains in or leaves a zone for a certain period of time.

**Note**: **Zone Tracking Events** are only available with a subscription to [**Vision Analytics**](https://solink.com/ai/vision-analytics/) (included in the Solink AI package).

Unlike [**Zone Tracking Search**](/docs/understand-your-business/ai-features/vision-analytics/zone-tracking-search.md), you can create several zones - up to 5 per camera - and "set and forget" while Solink's AI generates events based on your configuration.

Zone Tracking Events can help you track and measure:

* Average speed of service.
* Queue times that exceed X seconds.
* Display effectiveness and product engagement.
* No activity in a given area, such as the cash register or service counter.

## How to Configure Zone Tracking Events

**Note**: Ensure you have [enabled Vision Analytics](/docs/understand-your-business/ai-features/vision-analytics/enable-vision-analytics.md) on the camera you wish to configure Zone Tracking events for first.

Select a camera on the **Video** page to start configuring Zone Tracking Events:

1. Select the **AI** button near the top-right of the video player.
2. Select **Zone Tracking:**

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-a5136a0c44a3c3fce7a573182ae1b0ad8c07b969%2F65e5770ef5ead25b.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

3. Select the **Events** tab in the Zone Tracking menu:

![](https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-fcf7f9d0295e1df97b8c79c16ccfb5af149a3a0a%2F61e9521528b780b3.png?alt=media)

Next, you can add and draw a zone in the camera view - this zone can be configured to track queue time, dwell time, or when there is no activity present in the zone.

To add a new zone:

1. Select the **Add** button in the top-right corner of the video player:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-efa45965f71c48636436499d8fa7ac3f3fd65055%2F028a3522960855c6.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

2. Draw a zone. Keep in mind what you want to track with your zone - follow these guidelines for an optimal zone:

   1. **Queue times/speed of service**: Draw the zone around the customer queue area.

   <img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-077bb750ff2891e361194bca8bcbc075f1e8f394%2F5cf55a76d4e7dc2e.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

   2. **Display effectiveness**: Draw the zone around the display area:

   <img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-9a605df0f452c9662911ac8dd7fe761e06c09a1b%2F848b7cc009a6cb1d.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

   3. **No employee activity**: Draw the zone where an employee should be (cash register area):

   <img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-f8717a99c64a3e930a255d4e17636e4017761234%2F12e76990349173f2.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

   **Tip**: For faster AI performance, reduce the number of vertices in the zone. This may help if you are experiencing any issues with your events.
3. Next, configure the zone:

   1. Type a **Name** for the zone. The name is recorded in the event card.
   2. Select a zone **Type** (Queue, Dwell, or No Activity, as per the zone examples listed in step 2) Selecting the right type helps separate the zone data.
   3. Set a **Minimum Time**. This determines the minimum time an individual must remain in the zone until an event is created. For a **No Activity** zone type, this instead creates an event when no one is present in the zone for the Minimum Time.

   ![](https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-6a203df51d423cb8cbf0063107fec77bf18a167e%2F1b8f46ec90dfa1b0.png?alt=media)
4. Select **Save** to apply the changes.

For information on configuring an AI tag for the Service Display Monitor, see [this guide](/docs/understand-your-business/ai-features/service-display-monitor-getting-started/service-display-monitor-user-guide.md#assign-ai-tags).

See [Locate Zone Tracking Events](#locate-zone-tracking-events) for help finding zone events.

**Note**: It may take 30 seconds or longer from the time the event occurs to the time it displays on the Events page.

**Note**: You can create up to 5 zones per camera.

See the following sections for more information on the **Advanced Settings**.

### Drive-Off Detection

You can enable drive-off detection for a vehicle tracking zone. See [Drive-Off Detection](/docs/understand-your-business/ai-features/vision-analytics/drive-off-detection.md) for more information.

### Track Single-Lane Vehicle Time

You can measure the approximate vehicle journey time between one vehicle zone to another - for instance, the time it takes the vehicle to get through the drive-thru from the menu board to the window area.

Toggle on the "Estimate single-lane total vehicle time" option and configure one zone as the "start zone" and one as the "end zone".

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-a9d0a0188e8da3401b327f796e4047924c6ec00e%2F65040fe03ebe9e6b.png?alt=media" alt="" width="360">

Any events generated from the end zone are appended with **Total Journey Time**, as shown in the following image:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-97fe3261fe25496dd4f2039c58e69fa882e32b93%2F72b384bafd8fd397.png?alt=media" alt="" width="360">

**Note**: You can designate up to 2 start zones and 1 end zone.

### Track Zone Occupancy

You can configure a zone to track and create an event when a maximum occupancy is reached.

For instance, if you want to get notified when there are 5 or more people waiting in the queue line for 30 seconds or longer, you can create a zone in the queue area or revisit the existing zone and toggle on the "Track maximium occupancy" option:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-75fa833c91df7f06755bbd63a6e2f3925cc55c2f%2F2534972d7a86b080.png?alt=media" alt="" width="360">

An event is then created whenever the maximum occupancy is met during the time you specify in seconds.

See [Locate Zone Tracking Events](#locate-zone-tracking-events) for help finding zone events.

## Create Zone Tracking Report

You can create a report that captures the **total number of times in a day that people/vehicles remained in the zone longer than X seconds** OR **total time spent in the zone** over a period of time (day, week, month, year). Then, use this report to create widgets for these use cases.

**Note**: Please reach out to your Customer Success Representative if you require help creating a Zone Tracking report and widgets.

To create this report:

1. Add filters on the Events page based on what you want the widget to display. For example, you may want to target a specific zone or all of your zones, therefore add filters that target either a specific Zone Label or Zone Type (e.g., Dwell). Please refer to [Filter Zone Tracking Events](#filter-zone-tracking-events) section for information on how to filter these events and refer to [Create a Report](/docs/understand-your-business/search-and-save-reports/create-a-report.md) for more information on creating reports.
2. Select the **Zone Time** filter and choose "is greater than" X seconds. For example, to capture only instances of people/vehicles in the zone(s) greater than 2 minutes, type "120" (seconds):\

![](https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-b1be2488dc5e641cb2b0b080fd6b0d8886f426a9%2F004463b68087501b.png?alt=media)

Pictured below is an example of filters that will capture events with a specific Zone Type, Zone Label (name) and only if time spent in the zone was greater than 120 seconds:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-e82c96d9e52a1a7d0470eed56a9707914f323f20%2F669cde510166edef.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

### **Create Widget: Frequency Person Spent More than X** S**econds in Zone**

Create a widget that displays the total number of times a person or people/vehicles remained in zone(s) for more than **X** seconds:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-8b95f072153f282100d70bc5d8685bfb22868b35%2F099084609ec678e1.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

On the **Dashboard** page, select **+Widget** to get started:

1. Select the **Report** widget type.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.solink.com/docs/understand-your-business/ai-features/vision-analytics/zone-tracking-events.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
