# Video Search

**Video Search** allows you to search your cameras for a certain object or situation using AI.

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVCviHx_zUQ>" %}

You can start using Video Search directly from the **Video** page in the Solink platform:

## How to Video Search

You can search via the search bar with a **text prompt** or **use a reference image** as the basis for your search.

1. Choose a text search or image search:

   * **Text Search**: Type your prompt in the search bar at the top of the **Video** page.

   <img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-56e232e5fd98ee7ec1bf31c11a11006315982f1e%2Fae43855a54570da3.png?alt=media" alt="" width="640">

   * **Image Search**: Drag and drop/upload an image for reference. Video Search returns results closest to that image.
   * **Search by Image**: Select the **Search by Image** button in the top-right corner of the video player to select a portion of camera footage and search natively using a reference from the Solink video player. Video Search looks for close matches to the reference image you highlight:

   <img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-bdc76429877be92a58ff88e21ed2efce700ad403%2F0a6acfa6306b985d.png?alt=media" alt="" width="640">
2. Use the filters at the top of the page to adjust the start date, timeframe (up to the last 7 days) and location(s) that the AI searches through:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-992276421bffa58571576c58ec7f9645db49fdaf%2F25684c9b556f95ad.png?alt=media" alt="" width="640">

**Note**: The AI searches video frames, rather than full video. It is highly recommended to search for objects/scenarios that could be best captured in a single image rather than across seconds or minutes of video.

Video Search presents the search results from most relevant to least relevant. Please note that search results may vary based on the prompt.

Some suggestions that you can use Video Search for include:

* Search for "Employees looking at cell phone" to identify if employees are looking at their cellphone instead of serving a customer:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-5419b8e7d88717b031aff33fcaf80fd9d929643e%2F16e318eb59d67d44.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

* Search for a particular color of a hat or shirt that someone was reported to be wearing, such as "red hat":

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-767cffab639c5ef636928243196126952197b510%2F359ed1b88899936a.png?alt=media" alt="" width="640">

* Search for a particular color of a vehicle or even the make/model (if you have outdoor cameras):

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-14cd79f771e471204ec4b6f016599c7d709af4a0%2Fdbce70e00311ddc2.png?alt=media" alt="" width="640">

## How to Enhance Video Search Results

Use the **precision slider** to improve your search results.

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-499a2de90e64251b0db1041c453d39d9c60f8610%2Fad97f09df8b0534d.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

Start with high precision to get search results that are **as close as possible** to what you searched for. This method will also return the least number of search results.

To broaden your search and increase the number of results, move the slider to low precision - the search results may not be as close to what you initially searched for, but **may also return more results** that are in the "ball park" of what you are looking for.

Additionally, try narrowing down your search by filtering to a specific day of the week or specific location where you know the situation occurred.

Sometimes, using less words can improve the result.

### How does Video Search help me find what I'm looking for?

Video Search is a text to image search - just type what you want to find (such as "blue hat") and filter by date/cameras to narrow your search. See [How to Use Video Search](#how-to-video-search) above.

### What happens when I "upvote" or "downvote" a Video Search result?

Please use these buttons to provide our team with direct feedback. Our team reviews all of the feedback and implements changes to improve the AI model over time.

### How can I improve my results?

See the [information above](#how-to-enhance-video-search-results) to learn how to adjust your search and optimize results.

### Can I search with both text and image at the same time?

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.solink.com/docs/understand-your-business/ai-features/solink-sidekick-ai/video-search.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
