# Scheduled Spot Check

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Sidekick is Transitioning to** [**Solink Agents**](/docs/understand-your-business/ai-features/agents/agents-getting-started.md)

Please take note of the following dates:

* **November 30, 2026:** Solink no longer enables Sidekick for new customers and spot checks cannot be created or edited.
* **December 31, 2026**: Sidekick turns off for all customers.

**What are Solink Agents?**

Agents are new and improved iterations of what Sidekick offered; they intelligently monitor your locations and report what they find. To learn more, check out [Agents: Getting Started](/docs/understand-your-business/ai-features/agents/agents-getting-started.md). To move your Sidekick prompts to Agents, see [Agents: Prompting Best Practices](/docs/understand-your-business/ai-features/agents/agents-prompting-best-practices.md).

If you have any questions, [please reach out to our Support team](https://solink.com/contact-us/).
{% endhint %}

With Scheduled Spot Check, you can detect people, objects and scenarios to help you monitor key aspects of your business on every camera - all you need to do is provide the instructions and set a schedule.

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up0_4rc0waI>" %}

Some more examples of prompts AI is capable of responding to include:

* Whether an aisle in your store is accessible or blocked by an object.
* If employees are providing active service to customers or are not providing any customer service at a given time.
* If security guards are present or absent from their posts.
* Whether the store is opened too late or closed too early.

**Note**: Scheduled Spot Check requires a subscription to [Solink's AI Package](https://solink.com/lp/try-ai/).

***

### How Scheduled Spot Check Works

Scheduled Spot Check uses Solink's **Sidekick AI** to generate a response to a prompt on a scheduled interval.

You can configure the schedule, as outlined in the [Create a Scheduled Spot Check](#create-a-scheduled-spot-check) section below. For example, you can create a Spot Check to run every 4 hours at one of your locations that asks the question: "Are there any employees looking at their phone in the store?"

**Please note**: Sidekick AI is **not** designed to respond to prompts that measure tasks, actions etc. over a period of time, including:

* Calculating speed of service.
* Evaluating order accuracy.
* Real-time theft detection.
* Speed of travel.

### Spot Check Monthly Limits

There is a monthly limit on the number of spot checks you can use.

You can refer to the monthly limit - which resets at the beginning of each month - in addition the estimated usage of the current Scheduled Spot Check, at the bottom of the spot check menu:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-f87dcaa20f0b57f0a8e22c2f039869cee7dc894a%2F690377a6d775a9a2.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

Refer to the **Spot Check Balance** and **Estimated Usage** before scheduling Spot Checks to ensure you do not exceed your monthly limit.

**Note**: By default, all subscribed locations will have their spot check balance pooled together. For example, you are allotted 10,000 camera checks per location; with 10 locations, you can use up to 100,000 camera checks per month across all locations.

The following chart provides a breakdown of how your monthly balance is impacted based on the frequency you run spot checks at and the number of cameras per spot check:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-a7a3a1cca42e61f5015e43dea9610f5538a5c138%2F01e52834e712f2bf.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

**Note**: Calculations listed in the table above are based on hours of operation.

**Note**: The monthly limit **does not** rollover month-to-month. The monthly limit resets to your maximum amount at the beginning of each month.

### Create a Scheduled Spot Check

To create a Scheduled Spot Check:

1. From the **Video** page in the Solink platform, select the **Spot Check** button near the top of the page:

![](https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-1f7a42fa61e0c5fb213c435ef864a9ed4b4131c7%2F2049668fc6fc42b0.png?alt=media)

2. Type a prompt in the search bar OR select a template {premade prompt} directly below the search bar:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-cfb84e0072e6ff53a2097d8b2ebe8653b5f0ab99%2Fa89f901ee55f5607.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

#### Prompts and Responses

Next, you can begin configuring the Spot Check behavior, starting with prompts and responses.

1. AI automatically creates a prompt (or rewrites your prompt if you typed one) to achieve better results. You can edit this prompt as needed:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-7c99b272b6b9433e1abca536e620265fdb60d175%2Fd584af99a2299175.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

2. AI then generates at least one response based on your prompt.

For example, if you enter “Obstruction detected” and describe when it should apply (such as when an object is left unattended or blocking a pathway), Sidekick will display “Obstruction detected” on the event card when those conditions are met:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-6c6a53b6d4399e78d8091acdeb806f231ee77256%2F8c8b6ad5f9d36cb3.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

**Note**: AI responds with "Nothing of relevance" by default if it does not find anything that meets the criteria outlined in the response and description you provided.

**Additional Note**

You may see a written response in the **Legacy Response Format** field under **Additional Response Context.**

This field is from a previous iteration of the user interface and is preserved to ensure backward compatibility with widgets and reports created before the update:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-62a48c1df0e81c274b6fe36231c65df95e7cf19e%2F4acf7c435c66563e.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

If the **Legacy Response Format** field contains any content, the AI will ignore the Response/Description fields and use only the **Legacy Response Format** field to generate responses.

To use responses in the updated interface, delete all content from the **Legacy Response Format** field first.

**Note**: Legacy Response Format is only present on Spot Checks created earlier than April 15, 2026.

#### Set the Schedule

Next, set how often Spot Check runs.

1. Select the "Schedule" button:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-6273fb34f54a6f60e097df5bce57b36c50d17db7%2F399e0f90d8b64867.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

2. Select the **start date and time** for your spot check to begin on:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-72d57f0e1a33601fcd10c650139945a07fa4c100%2Fbafacb1c8aa8ab79.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

3. Choose an interval for the spot check to **repeat** - for example, if you select “every 6 hours”, the AI will evaluate the selected cameras every 6 hours, starting from the date and time you specified. You can also select **Does Not Repeat** to conduct the spot check once. If you configure spot checks to repeat **Daily**, select the weekdays to run the spot check on.

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-ecb41c381de0a4ac2834aa178eb218b9b47eb170%2F38bccbb17ca5007a.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

4. In the **Expiration** section, choose whether the spot check expires:
   1. On a specific date.
   2. After X number of occurrences.
   3. Never.

#### Select Cameras

Next, select which cameras this Spot Check runs on.

1. Select **Select Cameras to Run Spot Check**:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-d5ba2e68aca8fa3ea0121ae4c94172058efa33ee%2F099f9e57192e3d15.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

2. Select the desired cameras to run the Scheduled Spot Check on, then select **Select Cameras** to confirm (you can also choose the Select All option to select all cameras from all locations at once):

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-24268d8e22950f6492e6d65491e8eb6d715b2a72%2Fb38d4711f82f640f.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

3. Solink loads a preview of the spot check. Please wait for the AI to load the responses (this may take a few minutes depending on the number of cameras you selected). You can review the AI analysis of each location and cross reference with the camera screenshots above:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-c1bf20c7f6c2d495e6215fd2b026030c6c795bef%2Fd19d7f9a8958121e.gif?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

**Note**: If you have selected more than 250 cameras, only the first 250 will be available for preview. The remaining cameras will still be included when you schedule the spot check. 4. If you are happy with the preview, select **Schedule** to schedule the spot checks:

<img src="https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-b0499dc5d971f857cfebda34d2610e311ee9c979%2F3e53431c374f91d5.png?alt=media" alt="" width="560">

# Agent Instructions
This documentation is published with GitBook. GitBook is the documentation platform designed so that both humans and AI agents can read, navigate, and reason over technical content effectively. Learn more at gitbook.com.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.solink.com/docs/understand-your-business/ai-features/solink-sidekick-ai/sidekick-scheduled-spot-check.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
