# Employee Detection for Alarms: How to Fix

SMS Auto-Disarm ensures repeated employee-caused alarm triggers are addressed.

A text message is sent to your alarm contact(s) when the alarm system is armed and successive employees are identified onsite over the course of X minutes, as indicated in the text message.

Select the link at the bottom of the text message to open footage of the alarm for review.

![](https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-dabb127181c6d4c5a02d8a1aa2ba819ca9c79bdc%2F78dd0d22e9adca32.png?alt=media)

This happens when a monitoring agent reviews footage of an alarm and determines that the people onsite are employees, not suspicious individuals. The site is automatically disarmed until the next scheduled arm period, or for a certain period of time configured by your Customer Success representative.

Follow the steps outlined below to learn how you can optimize your alarm system and ensure you only receive notifications when a real threat to person or property occurs.

**Note**: If you receive this text message and the people onsite are NOT employees, follow the steps outlined in the text message to either **arm** the system immediately and/or **dispatch** emergency services to address the threat. To learn more, see [How to Address Threat (No Employees Detected)](#how-to-address-threat-no-employees-detected) below.

## Change the Alarm Schedule

Setting a correct alarm schedule is one of the most important steps to ensure your site is protected and is unarmed when permitted individuals are onsite.

An alarm schedule automates the arming and disarming process to ensure the system is armed when the site is closed and disarmed when open.

It is also highly recommended to create a schedule that takes into account employee arrival and departure times beyond simply creating a schedule based on store hours.

For example, set the alarm to disarm before the first employee(s) is expected to arrive onsite and set it to arm after the last employee(s) is expected to leave the site.

Reach out to your Solink Customer Success representative for more help with setting up an alarm schedule.

Additionally, see [Alarm Schedule](/docs/protect-your-locations-with-alarms/alarm-setup/alarm-schedule.md) for more information.

## Create Alarm Schedule Exceptions

Create an exception in your alarm schedule to arm or disarm the system for occasions that fall outside of your typical close and open times.

For example, you may want to adjust the alarm schedule temporarily during a holiday break, during a special event at your location after closing hours, or during renovations to avoid triggering an alarm.

Reach out to your Solink Customer Success representative for more help with setting up alarm schedule exceptions.

Additionally, see [Alarm Schedule Exceptions](/docs/protect-your-locations-with-alarms/use-and-configure-alarms/alarm-schedule-exceptions.md) for more information.

## Use Solink's Alarm Tablet for Enhanced Alarm Monitoring

Solink offers a [physical tablet solution](https://solink.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Solinks-Video-Alarm-Tablet.pdf) to ensure the system is always armed and disarmed at the appropriate times.

When employees enter the site, they are prompted to disarm the alarm system via a PIN code and arm with the same PIN when leaving the site. This mitigates any instance of an authorized individual accidentally triggering the alarm system during an armed alarm period.

Reach out to your Solink Customer Success representative to inquire about purchasing a Video Alarm Tablet for your locations.

Additionally, see [Video Alarm Tablet Overview](/docs/protect-your-locations-with-alarms/video-alarm-tablet/video-alarm-tablet-overview.md) for more information on setting up and configuring a tablet if you already have one installed.

## How to Address Threat (No Employees Detected)

If there is a real threat to person or property, please promptly follow the instructions in the text message to re-arm the system and/or dispatch police to the site.

All alarm contacts listed in Solink will receive the initial "employees detected" text message and have the ability to arm and/or dispatch. All alarm contacts also are kept updated in the text message chain if another alarm contact arms or dispatches to a location.

**Note**: The ability to arm and/or dispatch via the text message expires after one hour from receiving the message.

### Arm via Text Message

To re-arm the system in response to the "employee(s) detected" text message:

1. Text "arm".
2. Choose the location to arm from the list of location options (the system will arm the chosen location until the next scheduled period or for a set time configured by your Customer Success representative):

![](https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-93dcb7332b6caa76b33aec7cb8f1f434f5f6fc39%2Fcd3f498f6bd70fef.png?alt=media)

**Note**: Once you have armed a location, you can text "arm" again in the same text message chain to choose from the list of locations and arm another location (if needed).

### Dispatch via Text Message

You can dispatch police to a location in response to the "employees detected" text message:

1. Text "dispatch".
2. Choose the location to dispatch police to from the list of location options. Police are dispatched immediately after:

![](https://1562067156-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FlMN1EUQcXYfv7FYpGJWR%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-afb0758d2d5e7d0e3dc3d8e0edad29acc09dc141%2F19c98570627d601e.png?alt=media)

**Note**: Once you have dispatched to a location, you can text "dispatch" again in the same text message chain to choose from the list of locations and dispatch to another location (if needed).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.solink.com/docs/protect-your-locations-with-alarms/video-alarms-faqs-and-troubleshooting/employee-detection-for-alarms-how-to-fix.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
